GPA Scale
What each letter grade is worth in grade points, on the tables US schools and colleges publish. A GPA is these points multiplied by credit hours and divided by the hours, which the GPA calculator does for a whole transcript.
Grade points for each letter grade
Schools that award pluses and minuses split the step between letters in one of two ways: in tenths, where an A- is 3.70, or in thirds, where it is 3.67. A third table runs to 4.33 for an A+ and caps the reported unweighted GPA back at 4.00.

Weighted GPA points for Honors and AP courses
A weighted scale adds points for course difficulty, so the same letter is worth more in a harder course. This district's table adds 0.50 to an Honors course and 1.00 to an AP, IB, Dual Enrollment or AICE course, and adds nothing to a failing grade. The amount is set district by district, so the weighted GPA calculator takes yours.

St Johns County publishes Standard 4/3/2/1/0, Honors 4.5/3.5/2.5/1.5/0 and AP, IB, Dual Enrollment or AICE 5/4/3/2/0 on whole letters, so a plus or minus counts as its whole letter here. The bonus amount is set district by district.
Unweighted 4.0 scale and the UC scale
The unweighted baseline colleges compare applicants on runs from 4.00 for an A down to 0.00 for an F on whole letters, with no plus or minus value at all, so an A- counts as an A.

The College Board table publishes five whole-letter rows and says some schools use pluses and minuses and others set different cutoffs. This scale collapses every plus and minus to its whole letter, so an A- counts as an A.
The University of California recalculates its own GPA on the same whole letters, adds 1 point per semester of honors-level coursework to a maximum of 8 points, grants no extra point on a D or an F, and averages over courses rather than credit hours.

UC states that pluses and minuses do not count, that one extra point comes with each semester of a UC honors-level course to a maximum of 8 between 10th and 11th grades, that a D or an F in an honors course earns no extra point, and that the result is not rounded up or down. The honors point covers school-designated honors courses for California residents only.
