Semester Grade Calculator

Multiply each term grade and the exam grade by the weight it carries, add the results, then divide by the total weight.

A semester of 88% in the first quarter and 92% in the second, both worth 40%, with 79% on a final exam worth 20%: the three come to 3520, 3680 and 1580 weighted points, which add up to 8780. Divided by the total weight of 100, the semester grade is 87.8%, a B on the site's default cutoffs, which the grading scale page sets out in full.

A component with no grade yet is left out of both sides of the division, so the same two quarters with the exam still to sit read 90%, an A, across the 80% of the semester that has been graded. Turning on the zero setting instead counts the exam as 0% and the figure drops to 72%, a C, which is the floor rather than the grade.

The score that exam has to earn for the semester grade you want is what the final grade calculator returns, taking 90% as the current grade and 20% as the weight of the final.

The form starts on the most common US split, 40% for each quarter and 20% for the exam. Districts publish their own, semesters made of two quarters plus a midterm and a final are ordinary, and the weights do not have to reach 100 because each one is measured against their total.
